Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Glutathione Important to Health?

It is a very powerful anti-oxidant that protects the body by targeting & destroying reactive oxygen molecules & free radicals.  It is found in high concentration in the liver, where it binds to heavy metals such as mercury & lead, chemical pollutants, & carcinogens and transforms them into form that can easily flushed out of the body via enzymatic pathway.

It enhances the body’s immune response.  Studies have shown depleted levels of gluthatione are associated with enhanced toxicity & weakend immune system.

According to Journal of Immunology, “ …Immune depressed individuals have lower Glutathione levels when fighting disease.  Lymphocytes, cells vital for your immune response depends on GSH for their proper function & replication.  Glutathione is crucial to the function & multiplication of these disease fighting cells, in order to ward off invading viruses, bacteria & parasites.  Restoring glutathione levels to those found in healthy people is likely to help immune deficient person.”

Why do you need Vitamin C when taking Glutathione?

“Blood Glutathione levels rose nearly 50% in healthy individuals taking 500mg of Vitamin C.  Vitamin C raises glutathione by helping the body manufacture it & at the same time prevent it from being oxidized.” Lipoic acid also helps increase glutathione levels."

-  Dr. Murray’s  7/30/2003

“Glutathione is too large a molecule to effectively pass through the intestine into cells, so supplementing with glutathione alone is not helpful.  But when taken with Vitamin C, which protects it from oxidative damage, Glutathione becomes effective.

- Monika Klein, C.N., Malibu, Cali

“Vitamin C is to keep Glutathione in the reduced form so that they can continue to have their powerful free radical quenching effects.”

-  Dr. Theodore Hersh

What is the Role of Alpha Lipoic Acid?

To help increase glutathione levels. “Lipoic Acid is the only antioxidant that can boost the level of intracellular glutathione, a cellular antioxidant of tremendous importance.”

-  Life Extension Foundation 12/99

How does Glutathione make Skin whiter?

Follow diagram of pigmentation pathway below.

In order to achieve the whitening "side effect" of Glutathione, dose must be doubled (20-40mg/Kg Body weight per day divided into 2-3 doses). This is the main reason why glutathione helps in whitening skin.  In Asia, oral glutathione is also referred to as skin whitening capsule, whitening pill, bleaching pill, or skin whitener that were proven to be very safe and effective.

Dark Pigmentations

Lighter Pigmentations

As Anti-oxidant/ anti-aging: Standard dosage computation:
10mg per Kg BW (Body weight) per day.

But as a SKIN WHITENER computation should be IN DOUBLE INCREASED DOSE
20-40mg/Kg BW per day in 2-3 divided dose.

Duration:

Medium brown skin: 1-3months
Dark brown skin: 3-6months
Very dark skin:   6-12 months
Black skin: 2 years or more

Upon reaching desired skin color, maintenance dose: 1 capsule 500mg once a day.

Note: Grapeseed Oil Extract / Other antioxidants such as Vit E should be taken to regenerate oxidized glutathione  to its absorbable form.

All Glutathione are oxidized when they pass the stomach and become Glutathione Disulfide (GSSG).

With the presense of other antioxidants such as Vit C, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vit E and most especially Grapeseed Oil Extracts (20x Vit C and 50x Vit E), regenerates Glutathione Disulfide to Reduced Glutathione (Usable form of Glutathione).

- Dr. Theodore Hesrh, MD Emeritus, Emory School of Medicine

Important Factors to consider in skin lightening:

1.    Make sure that you take the correct dose of Lucida-DS.

For less than 50 kilos, take Lucida-DS 1cap 2x a day.
For more than 50 Kilos, take Lucida-DS 1cap 3-4x a day.

Lucida-DS is a 500mg glutathione preparation combined with 100mg Alpha Lipoic Acid, Rosehips  and 100mg Vitamin C.

In order to regenerate oxidized glutathione (GSSG), you need to take these other antioxidants in their correct doses such as Alpha Lipoic Acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A but the best combination is Grapeseed oil extracts so that the oxidized glutathione will be regenerated to reduced glutathione which is the usable form.

Grapeseed oil extracts according to research is 20x Vitamin C and 50x Vitamin E without hypervitaminosis.

2.    Lucida-DS does not remove thick skin and dead skin cells.

You have to remove thick / outer skin MANUALLY with the help of exfoliating solutions, skin peeling solutions, diamond peeling procedures and others external procedures performed and supervised by a legitimate dermatologist so that the whiter skin underneath can be seen.

3.    See to it that you always apply sunblock at least SPF 50 even if you are

not exposed directly to sunlight.

Always remember that there are what we call UV A (directly under the
sunlight), UV B (indirectly exposed to sunlight) and UV C (fluorescent
       lights, and other lighting equipment).

Do these things correctly and you can see good results within 30 days.

Is there any untoward side effects?

“No side effects or interactions are known with oral administration of Glutathione even in prolonged use.”

Is there any drug interactions?

"Yes there is. You must not take Glutathione if you are taking Haloperidol (anti-psychotic drug) and Cisplatin (Chemotherapeutic Drug)". Glutathione deactivates these drugs actions.

Is Glutathione safe in the liver?

Yes.“ the levels of glutathione in the liver is critically linked to the liver’s ability to detoxify.  The higher the glutathione content, the greater the liver’s capacity to detoxify harmful chemicals.  Typically, when we are exposed to chemicals to which can damage the liver including alcohol, the concentration of glutathione
in the liver is substantially reduced.  This reduction makes the liver susceptible to damage.”

-   Nature’s Potent Liver Remedy (Dr. Murray)

Are all Glutathione preparations in the market safe?

Not all Glutathione are the safe....BEWARE!

Types of Glutathione Preparations to AVOID:

Glutathione praparation that are in combinations with the following (usually as their other ingredients):

Silicon Dioxide:
Their oral format are still highly questionable by clinicians. This is used only for topical consumption and not to be taken orally. There were reports that even their hair turned white and feeling of pain and firming of the breasts.

Goat / Sheep Placenta Extract:
Same with the Silicon Dioxide, it is not recommended to be taken orally. The usual complaints of users are that they pimples and they get fat.

Vit. A and Vit E:
There's nothing wrong with these vitamins but take note that skin whitening pills will take you months and months of daily dose regimen. These vitamins have hypervitaminosis (toxic to our body in prolonged use).

These forms of vitamins are what we call fat-soluble vitamins (such as Vit A, D, E, & K).

Fat-Soluble Vitamins are metabolized and hydrolized in the liver.  In prolonged use,  fat soluble vitamins can be very detrimental to ones health since excess of these preparations will not just simply be excreted and will just be stored in the liver making the liver work hard. That is why doctors advise their patients to rest their liver after at least a  month of taking fat-soluble vitamins.

Water-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin C & B- complex, when not used by the body  will just be excreted via urine, bile or feces.

So before buying Glutathione preparations in the market, look into its other combinations, ingredients and components.

Beware also of those fly by night sellers (not knowledgeable about glutathione's pharmaco-dynamincs and pharmacokinetics).

Beware of adulterated and under-dosed preparations, they are now imitated and sold at a very cheap price.

One way to check is by asking them assay certificates and importation papers.

Check its manufacturer and distributors for their legalities. Legitimate companies should possess Certificate of Authenticity such as USFDA - Process Food Certificate, Import Certificate and Free Sale Certificate and Certificate of Analysis).
